Virtua Fighter 3: Team Battle

* Release Date: 10-19-99
* Number of Players: 1 - 2
* Developer: Sega
* Publisher: Sega
* Compatibility: VMU, Standard Controller, Arcade Stick
Pros:
* Classic arcade style fighter with a great tournament feature.
* Plenty of characters to learn and keep you busy for a while.
* More hidden goodies than you can shake a stick at; but why would you want to shake a stick at them is beyond me.
Cons:
* Dated Graphics and effects; can't hardly compete with other 3D fighters available on the system.
* No Story Mode; which makes for a very lonely experience once you've had your fill of fun on the arcade mode.
* Too much "Chop" and not enough "Saki"- This game comes off pretty tame and mighty lame in the way of graphics and image.

Virtua Fighter 3: Team Battle Review by Alex Sanchez "Beatnik"

Gameplay

This game has been out for quite awhile. I've been playing this particular version of the game since it was made available on the import Dreamcast. Let me tell you, it’s pretty good. The controls are simple and straightforward, granted it’s not as complex a fighter as most other 3D fighters. It is a respectable and relatively realistic fighter, as are the moves and combinations used in the fights. It’s a good fighting game if you play against another person. The only gripe I have is that this game shows its age too much, it should have been updated somehow; be it extra costumes, enhanced techniques, etc. Something should have been done to make this game more appealing to the buyer and give them a reason to continue playing the game. You're better off playing this game with friends than you are going at it alone, and it does not have enough of anything in the way of a story mode and has no real endings. So its only saving grace is the fact that it makes a good Tournament game for you and your buddies to play.

Difficulty

The difficulty in Virtua Fighter 3tb is moderate, as in most other fighting games. Time spent practicing and playing alone helps, but you can only do that for so long before you get bored to tears. This is unless you have a second player to face off against.

Graphics

In the way of graphics, it’s not much different than its arcade counterpart. As with most, but not all 3D fighters, this game suffers from some bad effects. You can see the flaws on the details of the shadows when the camera zooms in too close. It’s fine but not great like Soul Calibur.

Sound

Virtua Fighter 3tb has the same complimentary sounds as its predecessors, except for the voice-over work. I cannot stress how annoying it is for me to hear game characters speak. Especially if I know for a fact that the voice over work in the previous game was much better than the new one. That's right! I'm pointing the accusing finger at Virtua Fighter 3tb voice-over actors who butchered my favorite fighters.

Overall

The more I think about it, the more I realize just how much I would like to see a home version of Virtua Fighter 2. Better yet, give me a super-enhanced version of Virtua Fighter 3tb and give me my money back! C'mon SEGA? How about a Virtua Fighter 4 game with Shenmue graphics and an actual story mode with real endings.

Last Thoughts

I like Virtua fighter 3tb for what it is, a tournament game from a Classic Sega series.

I just wish they put a little more heart and soul into making this one a winner.
